Q: What is Showbot?
A: Showbot lets you search for local appearances by your favorite
musicians and comedians. It searches all types of venues
in the area, so it can tell you when your favorite band, for example, may
be coming to town.
Q: There are already performer, venue, and ticket seller mailing lists that will
alert me. Why use Showbot?
A: Showbot tries to be comprehensive, timely and up-to-date across all
types of entertainment venues that host in-person appearances. You never
know if a favorite musician is going to play a small coffeehouse or do
a book tour. You may not even be aware of many of the venues that
host these kinds of events in your area. Just register, enter
your favorite performers and Showbot will do the rest.
Q: What about other kinds of artists, like actors?
A: Showbot focuses on the talented folks who appear and perform live.
The closest you'll probably ever get to your favorite actor is when you
sit in the front row of your local movie theatre, so Showbot doesn't
really focus on that. It's not trying to watch for celebrity news or
any of that kind of stuff.
Q: Does Showbot cost anything?
A: Nope. Showbot is free. Why should you pay for something, so that you
can pay more money to go to a show? Buy a CD from your favorite performer
at a live performance instead!
Q: Will you cover more towns?
A: Hopefully. Depends on your feedback. If you'd like Showbot
to cover your area, let us know.
Q: Sometimes Showbot gives a bad match or sends an incorrect alert. How
come?
A: Showbot isn't perfect! Make sure you enter the performers name
correctly. Showbot does exact matching to avoid lots of
false alerts.
Q: How do I get a Venue's events included in your listing?
A:Showbot covers listings for musician, comedian and author appearances.
It covers commercial venues as well as community arts centers, college performances,
book stores or wherever these artists appear. If you go to the Venues page,
you can submit the URL for the venue's website.
Q: Why are you doing this?
A: It's fun and I hate it when I miss my favorite band or comedian!
Mailing lists give me too much or too little info and there would be too
many to subscribe to anyway. Plus I don't want to give my email out to
places that might just spam me with other junk. Community sites are OK,
but a bit hit or miss, since they rely on anyone entering info and
usually focus on a particular style of performance. Performers websites?
Too many to check and lots of times they are too busy to update tour dates.
I've had good luck using Showbot and hope you will too.
Q: How do I give feedback
A: You can give feedback here. Good
or bad, we read it all. A return address is only required, if you
want a reply.
